Dr Patrick McIlwaine
Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist
Advanced Laparoscopic Surgeon
Dr McIlwaine is a consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist working in the South West Acute Hospital in Enniskillen since 2016. He completed his primary medical degree in Queens University Belfast with honours and did most of his Obstetrics and gynaecological training in Northern Ireland . In 2013, he undertook a 2 year Fellowship in Advanced laparoscopy and endometriosis surgery in King Edward’s Memorial Hospital in Perth, Western Australia, and is currently the lead endometriosis surgeon in the Western Trust.
Throughout his career Dr McIlwaine has developed special interests in pelvic pain and endometriosis, adenomyosis, menstrual dysfunction, gynae oncology, hysteroscopic surgery and uterine anomalies in addition to the management of a wide range of gynaecological conditions.

Dr Aisling Thompson
Consultant Obstetrician and Urogynaecologist
Specialist interest in Menopause
Dr Aisling Thompson has been working as a consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist in the South West Acute hospital in Enniskillen since 2018. She graduated from Queens University Belfast in 2005 and started her training in obstetrics and gynaecology the following year working in most of the hospitals in Northern Ireland. She completed her MRCOG in 2011, and in 2013 moved to Perth, Western Australia to do a 1 year fellowship in urogynaecology and pelvic floor surgery in King Edward’s Memorial hospital, the largest tertiary unit in the region. She returned to Northern Ireland and completed an advanced training module in medical education as well as a postgraduate certificate in clinical education with distinction .
Dr Thompson has a specialist interest in menopause care and is dedicated to providing tailored care to all women experiencing symptoms during this difficult life transition.

Leanda brings over 10 years of experience in delivering evidence-based care in gynaecology. Her specialist training includes pelvic organ prolapse, pessary management, and certification in cervical screening.
Passionate about women’s health, Leanda is committed to providing the highest level of individualised care and supporting patients with compassion and expertise. As part of the Lakeland Women’s Health team, she is dedicated to improving outcomes and ensuring every woman feels supported throughout her healthcare journey.

Michaela Leonard

Michaela is an experienced nurse with over 2 years’ experience in women’s health, she has developed a strong interest in gynaecology and is passionate about supporting women throughout every stage of their health journey.
Known for her compassionate and approachable nature, Michaela helps patients feel comfortable, safe, and well cared for. She has a deep commitment to women’s health and wellbeing and is proud to be part of the Lakeland Women’s Health team, working alongside skilled professionals to deliver the highest standard of care.

Imelda has over 17 years of experience working within gynaecology services, where she has developed extensive knowledge and skills in supporting the delivery of high-quality care. Throughout her career, she has been dedicated to ensuring women receive compassionate, expert, and individualised support.
